Robocalls are a pain in the arse. In the past I would get maybe one or two every six months. Now I am getting three or four per day. Robocalls are so bad that the number one question I get when speaking at events is “How can I stop robocalls?” Until recently, I didn’t have an answer. Now I do.

Steven Carlson, T-Mobile, recently joined me on a episode of the Carrie Kerskie Show where he shared how T-Mobile is stopping scammers in their tracks with ScamShield.

One of features of ScamShield that I absolutely love is that they give you a FREE second number to keep your personal number personal. Now when a business asks for your phone number, you don’t have to give them your main number. Just give them this free second number.

Why do I like this feature so much? Your phone number has become the equivalent of your SSN when it comes to account security. Have you ever called your bank or credit card company and heard the message “We have located your account based on the number you are calling from”? Mobile phones and the ability to port (transfer) a phone number to different carriers means that people keep their phone numbers for years. Moving across the country? You can keep you old phone number. Because of this, your phone number has become a key ID verification tool. If your phone number falls into the wrong hands… well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be good.

By limiting who gets your primary number you are limiting the potential of account takeover and other types of fraud.

Even if you are not a T-Mobile customer, I highly recommend you check out the episode. You can listen to the podcast or watch the video. I promise you will learn a few new things. I know I learned new things after this episode.

To learn more about ScamShield or how to switch to T-Mobile, visit T-Mobile.com. I DO NOT make any money if you click the link or switch to T-Mobile. I am sharing this because I really like what they are doing.

In the comments below tell me about the robocalls or scam calls you get? Have you found a tool that works?
