Search engines allow us to browse the internet for just about anything and everything you can think of. All you have to do is type in a word or two, the name of a product, or a question, and then the search engine shows you millions of results to help you find whatever it is you’re looking for. But, did you know that most search engines log your online activity, primarily your search history, for a profit?

Have you ever searched for a product online only to see that same product appear every time you are online? That’s the result of a targeted ad, and it’s one of the many ways these browsers use the information they collect from you to make money.
Thankfully, I discovered a search engine that believes everyone has the right to privacy while searching online. StartPage.
I love sharing tips and tools to help you protect your privacy from identity theft, fraud, and cyber threats! You will see throughout my website and in my blog posts links that go to outside sources (other websites and services). These links may be what is referred to as an affiliate link which means that I could earn money if you decide to click a link and purchase/sign up for that service or product. If I am sending you to an outside source that is only because I have tested or used it myself and believe in it. I am all about sharing my recommendations and providing you with the best tools and resources to help you protect your privacy.
The money earned through my affiliate links is just another way for me to keep doing what I love, which is helping you protect yourself and your privacy. If you choose to purchase something through me and use one of my affiliate links, it is greatly appreciated, and I thank you!
StartPage is a pioneer of private search by creating the first-ever private search engine and recently launched StartPage Privacy Protection extension which blocks trackers and cookies across the internet.
Being the type of person that likes to test things myself, I started using StartPage. Now it is my primary search engine. I liked it so much that I invited them to be a guest on my Privacy Mentor podcast.
Here’s a brief overview of what you learn in this episode:
- Why StartPage was created
- What makes StartPage different from other search engines
- What is a search bubble?
- Typically, if a product is free, you are the product. How does StartPage generate revenue?
- How to get started with StartPage?
If you haven’t heard of StartPage, do yourself a favor, and check it out. Your privacy will thank you.
